Reader's Corner
August 2007
Welcome to Reader's Corner
The good news is…I finished my book plus the proposal
for the next book and both projects were completed on schedule.
Woo-hoo! The bad news is…I still haven’t painted
my office. But hey, I have legitimate excuses! One, the
writing thing. Two, the research thing. And three, the
workshop thing.
Besides writing, I took a research trip this summer down
into northern California where I hiked across lava flows,
climbed cinder cones, crawled through lava tubes, and checked
out the petroglyphs south of Tulelake. Much of what I saw
shows up in one form or another in Something
Wicked, the book that comes out next summer.
I was shocked at how cold the lava tubes were.
Even though the outside temperature was around ninety, the
temps hovered in the low forties inside the tunnels. So pity
my poor claustrophobic heroine. Not only will she have to
deal with her fear of small, enclosed spaces, she’s
going to have to put up with the cold, too.
I also participated in two writers’ conferences
in the past few months. The first was Boise’s Murder
in the Grove conference in June. There I gave my “Blockbusters-R-Us” workshop
and participated on a paranormal mystery panel. I got to
meet with my agent and catch up with old friends, both
at the conference itself and at the Friday night booksigning
at Barnes and Noble. Something like thirty authors participated.
It was wild, a real book-a-palooza!
Then at the end of September, I gave a workshop
at another conference, this one at the historic Owyhee Plaza
Hotel in downtown Boise. The Caldwell chapter of the Idaho
Writers’ League
sponsored the event, and my friend Cheryl Maude co-chaired.
She and her friend Angie did a truly excellent job.
As for getting the office painted…I’m
thinking maybe Christmas vacation?
